I love sharing this class, because I know, for sure, that it makes a difference. It's the first class I developed, based on the 4 conversations that have brought parents back to me over the last 20 years, saying, "Lisa Kathleen, THAT made a difference!" I've seen the results in so many families. Here's my favourite note from one graduate of the first Big Picture Parenting class ever:
"We
have 3 children and first started using Lisa's services when our
oldest was 4 years old. He was highly active, distractable and having social
issues at pre-school. We had read much and felt like we had tried everything
but seemed to be getting nowhere. No matter the method the outcome was the
same. We were exhausted and our efforts felt useless....
Our oldest child is now almost 9 yrs old and all 3 of our
children have diagnosed special needs, which basically means their challenges
with daily living and schooling are more intense and complex than most
children. Even so, the strategies we implemented thanks to Lisa still hold
true and continue to be effective. In fact, the child psychologist who works with
our family was very impressed with our parenting and our interaction with our
children, saying we were "exactly what they needed". We told him it was due to Lisa's input
that we are able to manage as we now do.
...My husband and I have the same
values and end goals, yet how we parent is different. Lisa helped us not only to
understand each others' style of parenting, but how to respect and support each
others' styles as well...
Most
valuable tip Lisa every shared with us: Instead of saying "Good Job" all the
time, Tell your kids, "Look what you did!" or "You did it!" This instills a
sense of self accomplishment which builds self confidence and independence.
"Good Job" keeps them coming back to you to feel good about themselves. This
distinction is even more important with children with special needs who have
even more to over come in order reach their full potential. Self-confidence is
one of the most important gifts we can give our children, as so much else hinges
on it, no matter what their challenges are."
